ARTIST STATEMENT

The Creative Process

I come up with ideas very quickly. Not very many times does it take more than a day. I've learned to use sketches to better paint the picture for what i'm looking for and I always revised a design by simplifying it. My designs start off very messy and cluttered but end up highly simplified towards the end. Over the semester, my ideas shifted from being all in my head, to sketched out previews that were edited and revised before a final could be released. As far as my inspiration goes, I simply look at prime examples of a successful design and I look at what makes it so successful. I eventually noticed that everything  I saw was simplicity.

The Technical Process

I use a variety of tools including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, amd a few online programs to make the magic happen. Translating my sketches into the full dsign was not too easy a few times considering the specifics of some of my designs. For instance, my final logo design was greatly changed from my sketches. However, since I had some experience early on with the programs I use, translation was usually successfull in the end. Although I had the basic experience to get you by, I learned a few things I had no idea were in the programs I was using. I was taught how to effectively use them to make my designs. Since I was taught these things, my skills have greatly improved.

Reflection

I believe my works say that as an artist, I love simplicity. I would say that it also says that I love designing in general and that it isn't a chore for me. I've definitely developed my creative voice in this class. I used to just follow the books and never applied much effort and creativity into designs. This class pushed me to do so and has since, sparked true creativity in each of my designs.
